What if the Buildings of Paris Could Talk?
Looking for something more meaningful than photo ops and historical tidbits? Paris Muse offers engaging walking tours, with depth.

What if the Buildings of Paris Could Talk?

Our new walking tour—"The Marais: Where Buildings Can Talk"—explores this vibrant Right Bank neighborhood where elegant apartments and neo-classical monuments exist side by side with artists' ateliers and medieval boneyards. Everyone has left their mark here: from Francois Villon, renegade poet of the 1400s, and Madame de Sevigne, the beautiful writer of Louis XIV's court, to Art Nouveau master Hector Guimard and today's most cutting-edge architects. This walk is a unique opportunity to hear those voices of history.

Your guide Lisa Pasold is an architectural historian who will teach you to interpret the 800 years of building in the Marais. You will see how this part of the city evolved: touch medieval walls, walk through the Renaissance jewel Place des Vosges and discover 17th-century mansions. You will also visit little-known passages like the Impasse du Tresor or the hidden garden courtyard of Sully, while tracing the city's architectural evolution up to the still-controversial Centre Pompidou.

The magic of Paris lies in the way the city was put together—its history can be read block by block. Architecture is a language in Paris, and by learning to read the Marais, you'll discover a key to the whole city.
