Paris Muse offers high-quality private tours in front of the world's greatest art collections.
Our instructors are trained and experienced art historians. They are native English speakers, with teaching experience at top American universities, including Harvard University, New York University and University of California at Berkeley. They live in Paris because they are preparing publications and/or writing their Ph.D. dissertations in art history.
To find out more about who we are, read an interview with Paris Muse art historian and guide Pamela Warner.
Your Time is Precious
Paris Muse tours are arranged at your convenience, not ours. There is no need to waste precious Paris time standing in line to purchase your tickets. Paris Muse arranges your tickets in advance. (Each museum has adopted different security procedures. You may have to wait for a bag check, but never for tickets. Your guide will let you know.)
The price of admission is included in the price of the tour, which means you are free to explore more of the museum on your own after your Paris Muse session is over.
Forget the Audio Guide
Even when they are available, we find these taped narratives to be superficial and a bit dull. By contrast, Paris Muse instructors share their in-depth knowledge, giving you lively insights into both the form and history of specific works of art. Paris Muse tours are interactive because instructors work with you, developing discussions based on your questions and observations. Because they are focused conversations, no tour is ever the same.
Ce n’est pas Paris en version "tour operator"
Not interested in being herded around in a group by a guide with an umbrella over her head, shouting facts? We have designed our tours to be like entertaining mini-courses, but instead of lecture halls and slide projections, you learn directly from the masterpieces. And you do it at a contemplative pace in very small, intimate groups. We never book more than four to a tour, unless you specifically request otherwise.
Get to know Paris like we do
Ever feel as if you are just scratching the surface when you visit? Although our instructors are native English speakers, they speak French as well. They know Paris as residents and are happy to help you plan other cultural outings, or steer you toward other highlights in your museums of choice.
Every Paris Muse client receives the latest edition of Quoi de Neuf?, Paris Muse's listing of temporary museum exhibits and gallery shows. You may also subscribe to Quoi de Neuf? via e-mail. Click here to sign up for this e-mail newsletter.
Après Paris
After your trip, you can continue your learning experience at home. Each instructor will give you a reading list (including films and other museums) to help you explore your topic in further detail.
